In a typical day, how many doors do you open or close? The door to your house, apartment or condo. The door to your car, truck or minivan. The door to the local grocery, hardware or video store. The door to your school or office. The door to your bedroom or bathroom. Now, how often do you stop and really think about these doors? Probably just when you can’t get into them, right? If you’re planning to buy a home sauna, you should think very seriously about your sauna door. Indeed, many sauna owners agree that one of the most essential parts of a sauna is its door. Because a sauna door is much more than just a sauna’s entrance and exit, sauna shoppers would be foolish not to give this vital sauna component the consideration it deserves. If you want your sauna to be a great sauna, it has to have a great sauna door. The door to your sauna must be high-quality, not simply for aesthetic reasons but for practical reasons, too. It is not the same as the door to your closet; a sauna door and all its parts must be able to withstand the humidity and high temperatures for which saunas are so commonly known. This goes for the wood of the door as well as the handle, hinges and other hardware on the door. Not only must they be able to stand up to the intense heat and humidity of a sauna bath, but the sauna door and its parts must successfully endure the temperature and humidity fluctuations, too. Also keep in mind that your sauna door will likely get used a lot during its lifetime. It will be opened and closed repeatedly by you, your relatives and friends, and anybody else you invite into your sauna for a relaxing, refreshing dip in the heat. This means that your sauna door and all its working parts need to be durable. No one wants the door handle to fall off after only six months of use. Your sauna door must be well insulated to keep the heat and humidity of your sauna bath where they belong – inside your sauna. An indoor or outdoor sauna that loses heat or humidity through its door is unacceptable. The quality of the sauna bath suffers, and, when heat and humidity escape from inside an indoor sauna, walls and furniture in your home can easily get damaged. Many sauna doors have windows. A window in a sauna door can bring in light from outside the sauna and also allow people to look in and out. For sauna bathers concerned about privacy, however, a tinted window in the sauna door is a sensible choice. Tint or no tint, though, the window in the sauna door should tempered and able to withstand the extremes and changes that are characteristic of a sauna bath. Whatever door, hardware or window you select, make sure your choices complement the rest of your sauna unit. While aesthetics aren’t as critical to some sauna bath lovers as functionality and efficiency, it can mean a great deal to others. And, really, is there anything better than a sauna that works flawlessly and looks beautiful, too? |
